Camilla: Brother Pheasant's Journey 13

The assembly hall was dark and in spite of the fact that most of the 393 pupils of the school were present, there was only a whispering waiting.

Far away, a choir singing, coming closer…closer…closer.

Flickering light, candle light, softly lightening up the hall.

The first one in the long row of light messengers, Lucia herself, the light queen. With a crown of candles on her head and one in her hand. Long, white cotton gown and red silk around her waist, symbolizing the blood it once cost to say YES to light, to faith, to magic and NO to creeps and crawlers, to fear and manipulation and power based on ego instead of love.

After her, all her light fairies with candles in their hands, unleashing the most angelic notes as they entered the stage.

Then the boys, carrying stars, offering protection.

Dennis knew this ritual by heart. His school had adopted this Swedish tradition years ago and no one even laughed anymore when the songs were sung in wobbly Swedish.

Because this ritual touched even the saddest loner and the meanest bully.

Sebastian was close, Dennis could feel him.

“Dude…don’t freak out now…I think you are ready to really SEE. Just keep breathing, ok?”

Dennis had no idea what this meant. He looked at Lucia and all her light-helpers.

Suddenly the roof seemed to disappear. Above the light team on stage hovered huge luminescent Angels. Golden liquid light brimmed around them and they sang along in the Lucia songs. Around and above the Angelic beings, hundreds and hundreds of Dragons in different sizes and colours. They guarded what looked like gates in the four directions and sent long flames across the sky. Tiny lights flickering like fireflies, beings Dennis couldn’t even recognise.

Something opened up within Dennis and he could feel his beings standing in between two entities. One was the one who was grounded in all the things he had already experienced in his short life. It was the part of him who felt that he had already experienced so much disappointment, so many struggles. This part of him felt physically heavy, tired, but very familiar and safe.

The other part was something entirely new, yet well-known at the same time. Like a long lost family member. It was a part of him radiating an enormous energy, like a sun. This part felt eager to open up to new worlds and experiences. It whispered ‘This is JUST the beginning. I am only just beginning.”

Dennis felt a shift within and around him. It wasn’t even really a choice, but then again maybe it was. It just happened. He stepped into the new being. Whispered “I am only JUST beginning”. Felt new, eager, hopeful, brimming with an energy he could not really put into words.

Lucia sang her songs, completed her task to light up the dark.

Dennis stepped into the unknown.

And Sebastian came with the wise words, as always…

“Just tuck in your tail, dude. That's all I'm saying.”
