Camilla: Brother Pheasant's Journey 2

                                                                                 Art by Jen Buckley

Pheasant’s next choice of door was a shimmering green jade arch, reflecting light beams as if it was placed under water.

Pheasant screamed his BYE-BYE!! to little princess and entered the gate.

The next thing he knew he was floating in a sparkling deep-sea world, where the sunbeams shot down diagonally like soft arrows.

He saw huge shapes gently floating under water, vertically, like tree trunks without crowns. Before he could figure out what he was seeing, he FREAKED. OUT.

“HEEEERRRRRRRRPPP!!!”

“I CANNOT BE HERE!!!!”

“I AM A BIRD!!!!! I CANNOT SWIM!!! EEERRRRRRGHHHH!!”

Screaming, jumping, flapping his wings and waving his little legs until he finally fell over, utterly exhausted.

Panting, still mumbling his panic refrain.

Nothing happened.

Nothing.

Everything around him, the magic light, the floating logs, everything still glittered in perfect peace.

He was still here. He could breathe. He looked around. Then looked down at his feet. Checked his wings. He could not grasp how this was possible, but he was here, under water, breathing and moving just FINE.

“I just have to let go of the idea that this is not possible.”

The very moment he heard that thought, the giant logs that were kind of standing in the green-blue water lit up and started moving.

Whales.
They had been sleeping and now started swimming around pheasant, above him, below. And just when he thought the moment could not hold more crazy magic, the giant beings started to sing.

Their song rose to the surface like the air bubbles that accompanied it. Pheasant had never heard anything like it in his whole life.

They sang away his panic, his worries, the thought forms he clung to.
