Camilla: Violetta and the Pearl 7

A pile of dried sage leaves on the kitchen counter and a neat row of jars to put them in, once Mumu had crumbled the leaves into tea-friendly yumminess. The smell always did something to me. It was impossible to stay grumpy when Mu was working her herbs.

I had been staring at one page in my history book for an hour, but that wasn’t important. Just being here, in the stillness of doing every day stuff, with her, was the one thing I never wanted to be without anymore. The one thing I couldn’t even bring myself to be grateful for out of fear it would then disappear.

-       That’s such a cute dragon next to your bed, Mu.

She was crumbling leave by leave and seemed to put intentions into every single one. Calmly focused.

-       What used to be on its chest? Looks like something was once glued on there.

She sighed. Remained silent for a few more minutes while the crumbled leaves were swirling down into the glass jars.

-       I’m going to tell you a story Chrys. It is a story that was handed down to me by my mother. She gave me a box with scraps of paper in it, every scrap had a few sentences written on it. So I kind of had to figure out for myself how the story was supposed to stick together.

As far as I understand, the story was supposed to be told something like this.

Once upon a time, there were a beautiful, huge, violet dragon queen. She was so beautiful, graceful and shimmering, she was well-known by each and every one living in that part of the world. She radiated so much light she was even hard to see at times.

The dragon queen lived with her human caretaker. See, a long time ago there were many human beings who lived together with a dragon they loved and protected with their lives. People in power tried to kill all dragons or turn them into slaves because of their magic.

Violetta the dragon had a blinding, precious pearl on her chest. The softest glow pulsed from the pearl and its magic power was unheard of. Even misfortunes that seemed impossible to turn around could be healed and changed by the dragon pearl.

Violetta survived many, many attacks by ignorant and ill-willing beings. She and her caretaker formed a good team and loved each other like family. Her caretaker was an amazing partner for her. Unfortunately, he was not very good at other things and did not speak the human language of hierarchy.

When their ways had to part, Violetta worried about her friend. How was he going to survive in a world built only for human beings? He was almost a dragon now.

She decided to leave him the pearl, so that he never had to suffer, hunger or despair. Out of her own free will, she pulled it from her chest and placed in his hands. A tear drop fell from her eye onto the pearl.

They parted and he was now fine, always protected and comforted by her pearl. Violetta went underground where other dragons lived as well.
